Although we would love to be able to visit all our members regularly, the level of demand on our Community Advice Officers makes this impossible so our Telephone Befriending Service allows trained volunteers to make regular calls for as long as they are welcomed to complement our existing Home Visiting Scheme.
Our Telephone Befrienders regularly contact blind or partially sighted people on a weekly or fortnightly basis and establish a rapport with them.
This service offers a welcome point of contact which members enjoy and can look forward to and is particularly important for those members who are quite isolated or lonely.
Befrienders need a friendly and caring disposition and to be trustworthy and reliable.
Appropriate training is provided.
If you are interested in becoming a Telephone Befriender, please contact HERIB on 01482 342297.
