HERIB Hero Tom Skinner is no stranger to challenges having previously undertaken a 90 mile cycle ride around East Yorkshire with his colleagues from Halifax Bank and completed the Great North Swim, a two mile slog across the waters of Lake Windermere, England’s largest natural lake.
Now Tom is challenging himself to run the Simplyhealth Great North Run to once again raised funds for HERIB. It’s a cause close to his heart, as Tom is himself visually impaired, not that he lets his sight loss hold him back.
“Over the years I have completed many challenges and helped raise over £2000 for HERIB with the help of my family, friends and colleagues,” says Tom. “The Great North Run seemed a fitting way to complete a triathlon of individual events.”
Angela Gregory, Fundraising Manager for HERIB, said: “We cannot thank Tom enough for his magnificent fundraising for us. As a young man who has never let his sight loss be a disadvantage, he sets a truly inspirational example for everyone either sighted or visually impaired.”
“The money Tom raises will help us to continue to provide information and emotional support through our experienced staff, resource centre, booklets, support groups and information sessions to almost 2,300 local people who are blind or partially sighted.”
